ROCKINGHAM – At the time Gleybis Sanchez Lobaina, M.D., became a family physician, medical students in her native Cuba were required to study family medicine before they could enter another specialty.
She was surprised to find she really enjoyed the work.
“I fell in love with it,” she says, “as I was able to treat the whole family of my patients, starting from babies through the elderly. I was also able to see pregnant patients, do some GYN procedures and broaden my spectrum of patients, learning more and more. I love working with elderly patients, because I believe they need patience and reassurance most of the time but, in general, I enjoy working with all types of patients.”
Fluent in Spanish, this latest addition to the FirstHealth network of providers in Richmond County will be known as Dr. Sanchez when she joins FirstHealth Family Medicine in Rockingham on April 6. She will see patients who are age 18 and older in a FirstHealth practice that also includes Kimberley Lingler, M.D.; Steve B. Collins, PA-C; Emily N. Phillips, PA-C; and Tonya Eteo, FNP-BC.
Board eligible in internal medicine, Dr. Sanchez earned her medical degree and completed her residency in Cuba. After moving to the United States, she completed a residency in internal medicine at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in Bronx, New York, and then practiced with Park Avenue Medical Associates in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
“I am really excited about working with FirstHealth,” Dr. Sanchez says. “I see this as a great opportunity in my life to learn more and to meet another culture and colleagues. I am very happy and can’t wait to meet all the staff.”
FirstHealth Family Medicine is located at 921 Long Drive, Suite 101, in Rockingham.
