Physician Joins FirstHealth Family Medicine in Seven Lakes

SEVEN LAKES – Dr. James R. Liffrig retired from the U.S. Army as a family physician after 33 years of service. He left the Army in 2013, but has continued his medical career as a civilian.

 

On March 2, he will become affiliated with FirstHealth Family Medicine-Seven Lakes, joining physician assistant Dan Matthews, PA-C, and adult nurse practitioner Mandy Martin, ANP, in providing health care services for the Seven Lakes community.

 

Dr. Liffrig received his B.S. degree in psychology from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and his residency in family medicine at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg.

 

In addition to his medical degree, he also has a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Washington in Seattle and he completed a fellowship in faculty development at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.

 

Among his various assignments with the U.S. Army, Dr. Liffrig served as deputy commander of the 21st Combat Support Hospital, Operation Iraqi Freedom; and director of the Family Medicine Residency Program and chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg. From 2008 to 2013, he was an assistant professor of family medicine for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

 

Upon retiring from the Army, Dr. Liffrig worked as a civilian family physician at the Fayetteville Medical Home, Womack Army Medical Center. In March 2013, he joined the University of North Carolina, Physicians Network, as a family physician working at Riverbend Family Medicine Clinic in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

 

Dr. Liffrig and his family reside in Pinehurst.
