U.S. News & World Report Names FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital among the Best in North Carolina

| Date Posted: 7/29/2014

PINEHURST - FirstHealth Moore Regional has once again been ranked as one of the best hospitals in North Carolina by U.S. News & World Report.

The hospital received special designation in six high-performing specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.

U.S. News made several changes to its Best Hospitals rankings methodology this year, including adding new data and greater emphasis on patient safety. Patient safety now accounts for 10 percent of each hospital's overall score in most specialties – twice as much as in past years.

“U.S. News strives to provide patients and their families with the most comprehensive data available on hospitals,” says Avery Comarow, the magazine’s health rankings editor. “With an estimated 400,000 deaths occurring in hospitals each year from medical errors, measuring safety performance is critical to understanding how well a hospital cares for its patients.”

“This achievement should resonate with each FirstHealth Moore Regional employee,” says David J. Kilarski, chief executive officer of FirstHealth of the Carolinas.  “Our entire staff and our physicians place patient safety, quality care and patient satisfaction as their top priorities. National rankings, such as those by U.S. News & World Report, help validate the hard work and dedication of every employee.”

According to John Krahnert, M.D., FirstHealth’s chief medical officer, the rankings show how Moore Regional’s outstanding medical staff and the many nurses and other caregivers meet the needs of our patients with high quality care.

“We are honored to be recognized in this way,” he says. “The Best Hospitals ranking comes on the heels of our recognition as an American Hospital Association NOVA Award winner for our Diabetes and Nutrition Education program. These awards demonstrate our commitment to providing quality care to the communities we serve.”
The Best Hospitals rankings are intended to help patients with life-threatening or rare conditions identify hospitals that excel in treating the most difficult cases. Hospitals are ranked nationally in 16 specialties.

The rankings will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, which will be available in August.
