Local breast cancer survivors, their families and friends stand together to raise breast cancer awareness by forming a human pink breast cancer awareness ribbon on the grounds of Tufts Park in the Village of Pinehurst. The photo opportunity followed the 1 in 8K Moore for the Cure walk and run on Sept. 6. Funds raised from the race will help fight breast cancer, increase public awareness and allow individuals to honor and support those who battle breast cancer. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure – N.C. Triangle to the Coast Affiliate, the local Komen affiliate, which has granted FirstHealth of the Carolinas and partner organizations Moore Free Care Clinic and Pinehurst Radiology more than $183,000 in grant dollars since 2011. The funds have allowed the organizations to provide free screening mammograms and follow-up care to local women who cannot afford the services.
