Meet Jan Norris, Bariatric Clinical Coordinator, FirstHealth Bariatric Center

Jan Norris is the Bariatric Clinical Coordinator for the FirstHealth Bariatric Program in Pinehurst, N.C.

Jan developed a passion for Bariatrics after being employed with Pinehurst Surgical in 2006. In her role as the Clinical Coordinator, Jan serves as a patient advocate for the program. Her experience, professional knowledge and friendly personality provide the perfect combination in developing a trusting long-term relationship with patients.

Current responsibilities consist of clinical coordination of patients, surgeries and insurance.

“I work closely with our bariatric surgeons, nursing staff, hospital staff, psychologists, nutritionists, referring physicians and primary care providers to ensure the best possible continuity of care for our patients,” she says.

As the clinical coordinator, she navigates pre-operative patients through the pre-operative clearance process from seminar to surgery which includes assessing candidacy of patients for bariatric surgery, reviewing medical history, initiating referrals and scheduling appointments for all pre operative clearances.

Jan also helps to coordinate insurance benefits, obtain prior authorizations and appeal denials, plan and coordinate surgery schedules for both surgeons.

Her clinical responsibilities include pre and post-operative education, medication reconciliation, monitoring lab results for abnormalities and deficiencies, post-op patient triage, patient mentor, scheduling appointments, procedures and diagnostic testing, scribe, orders, charges and coding.

Basically, Jan just does it all and we are so thankful to have her as part of our team.
