When Keena Green was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2013 she felt like all hope was gone.
“I remember that day so well,” she says. “I had no hope and I just knew I was going to die.”
Green, a 41-year-old resident of Mt. Gilead, vividly remembers her first visit with Charles Kuzma, M.D.
“He spent so much time with me,” she says. “It was as if I was the only patient of the day. He was in no hurry. My anxiety disappeared, and my hope reappeared. He took his time to explain my breast cancer diagnosis to me. I knew then I was in good hands.”
For Green, choosing FirstHealth as her Cancer Care provider was an easy decision, she’s an employee at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
“But I didn’t have to choose FirstHealth,” she emphasizes.
“It was that personal connection, that home-like feel that made me choose FirstHealth,” she says.
Green was pronounced cancer free in April of 2014. To celebrate, she went to the beach with her family to celebrate. Green and her husband of 22 years will take an annual trip to the beach with her son and daughter every April to celebrate her survivorship.
