"What to Expect..."

Christi Embler

My name is Christi Embler and I have worked as a floor nurse on first surgical for four years.  During this time, I have become extremely involved in the bariatric program and serve as our floor's educational liaison.  I enjoy providing teaching to both our staff and patients and want to offer you the support needed during this exciting step in your life.  Since most of our upcoming patients ask me "What should I expect" regarding their hospital stay, I wanted to offer you a brief overview:

On first surgical, it is our goal to provide you with the best experience possible.  We hope to achieve this by offering continued support and guidance during this part of your journey.  We are excited for you and your family to be taking this important step toward a healthier future and find it incredibly rewarding to be a part of this transition.

During your stay with us, you can expect active involvement from a supportive nursing staff who truly cares about your success and is there to ensure you receive the necessary guidance along the way.  We encourage patient and family involvement in your plan of care and find that the more interaction we have together, the greater the outcome.

Since your stay with us will be short, we use as much of this time as possible to provide you with adequate teaching and review important information that will assist you along the way.  We want you to feel well equipped to manage your care once home and will gladly offer educational tools and resources prior to discharge.  For instance, we will be providing you with a liquid tracking tool to assist in logging your daily requirements and help pinpoint potential areas needing improvement.  We will also provide teaching geared towards your specific surgical procedure and be there to answer any questions or concerns that may present.  Through consistent education, we will help set the expectations for care and assist you with feeling adequately prepared to continue this once home.

One of my roles is to ensure that both our staff and patients remain knowledgeable regarding optimal care specific to weight loss surgeries.  I enjoy working alongside patients and family members during this time and will gladly provide any additional information prior to surgery or after discharge.  I encourage involvement and would love to hear from either those who are thinking about some type of weight loss surgery, or those patients who have already experienced this.  I find it absolutely rewarding to see previous patients and hear their positive experiences and look forward to the future success stories to be told.
