Dr. Flannery began seeing patients at FirstHealth Internal Medicine on Monday, April 28. He will continue to fill in as a hospitalist when needed.
Internal medicine is a medical specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Services include sick visits, chronic disease management, annual physicals and work qualification exams as well as school and sports physicals. Hospitalist physicians see hospitalized patients only and not in an outpatient office.
“I am very excited about this opportunity to return to outpatient care,” Dr. Flannery says. “While I have enjoyed my work in the hospital, my focus for many years was in outpatient work and I have missed that special kind of doctor-patient relationship. I look forward to re-establishing previous patient ties and to building new relationships with patients from the Richmond County community.”
Dr. Flannery earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals. Board certified in internal medicine, he has practiced medicine for more than 30 years and in 2013 was named Richmond Memorial Hospital's Physician of the Year.
“Dr. Flannery has served this community very ably for many years,” says John Jackson, president of Richmond Memorial Hospital. “While he provided a great service to our hospitalist program, his heart has always been with outpatient care and we are happy that he can now return to FirstHealth Internal Medicine.”
On May 8, Dr. Flannery and adult nurse practitioner Christina Dixon, ANP, will be joined at FirstHealth Internal Medicine, 809 S. Long Drive, Rockingham, by adult nurse practitioner Steve Millen, ANP, formerly of FirstHealth Family Medicine. At the same time, family nurse practitioner Tonya Eteo, FNP, will move to FirstHealth Family Medicine at 921 Long Drive, Suite 101, Rockingham, to join Kimberly Lingler, M.D.; and certified physician assistants Steve Collins, PA-C; and Emily Phillips, PA-C.
FirstHealth Internal Medicine is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To make an appointment with Dr. Flannery or one of the other providers, call (910) 417-4005.
