FirstHealth Opening ENT and Orthopaedics Offices on Hoke Campus
| Date Posted: 3/28/2014
RAEFORD – The April opening of ENT (ear, nose and throat) and orthopaedics offices in the FirstHealth Physician Offices & Specialty Center will complete the series of specialty services currently planned for the medical office building connected to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke Campus.
Primary care and cardiology offices opened in the building late last year, and wound care and hyperbarics quickly followed. However, the specialty services site includes another 2,000 square feet of currently unassigned space that will house other services as community needs are identified.
“An exciting time for health care in Hoke County will reach another milestone with the opening of FirstHealth orthopaedics and ENT offices in the FirstHealth Physician Offices & Specialty Center,” says Susan Beaty, R.N., administrator of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke Campus. “We expect orthopaedics and ENT to be as well-received as primary care, cardiology, and wound care and hyperbarics have been, and we anticipate being able to offer even more services in the future. We have the space for them. We just need to know what this community wants and needs.”
The ENT office will be open two days a weekwith services provided by Waldemar Riefkohl, M.D., and Matthew Grafenberg, M.D. Both are board certified otolaryngologists, physicians who are specially trained to evaluate and treat certain conditions of the head and neck in addition to problems involving the ear, nose and throat.
Dr. Riefkohl earned his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., and completed his internship and residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
Dr. Grafenberg earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Maryland and completed his internship and residency at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis, Wash.
FirstHealth Orthopaedics office will be open five days a week with services provided by orthopaedic surgeon Ward S. Oakley Jr., M.D.; and physician assistant Scott E. Olson, PA-C.
A long-time provider of orthopaedics care with Pinehurst Surgical’s Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Center, Dr. Oakley earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee’s Center for Health Science in Memphis. He completed his internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Campbell Clinic Foundation, also in Memphis.
His orthopaedic practice focuses on arthroscopic surgery of the knees, shoulders, elbows and ankles; shoulder reconstructive surgery; and knee and shoulder replacement surgery. He is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Olson received his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center before completing a Physician Assistant Fellowship in orthopaedic surgery with the United States Air Force.
Before joining FirstHealth, he was chief of Medical Operations for the 724th Special Tactics Group and a staff orthopaedic physician assistant at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg.
