SANFORD – FirstHealth of the Carolinas now provides outpatient physical therapy services in Sanford.

FirstHealth Rehabilitation-Sanford is open two days a week and is located in the FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain Clinic at 1227 Carthage St. (next to Carolina Eye Associates).

Services are provided by physical therapist Ginny Barbour, P.T., MPT, a FirstHealth employee since 2001 who resides in Chatham County. Barbour received her B.S. degree in clinical laboratory science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master’s degree in physical therapy from Elon University.

She worked in numerous patient care areas in the FirstHealth rehabilitation department, including inpatient rehabilitation, before joining the outpatient rehabilitation team. Trained in the Bioness functional electrical stimulation system, she served as a clinical investigator during FirstHealth’s participation in the Instride Research Study for stroke patients.

She frequently provides community lectures and education on a variety of physical therapy subjects including balance and falls prevention as well as safe transfer training.

At the Sanford physical therapy location, Barbour works with patients with conditions that include arthritis, back, neck and joint pain in both acute and chronic stages as well as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. She also offers services for patients with work-related, home-related and accident-related injuries as well as stroke, orthopaedic conditions, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.

Patients in the Sanford clinic receive a thorough patient history and examination, one-on-one time with the therapist, an individualized plan of care and any necessary follow-up communication with the referring physician or other health care provider.

“At the Sanford outpatient rehabilitation clinic, we provide the same high quality and continuity of care that is consistent throughout FirstHealth’s entire rehabilitation program,” says Jill Botnick, director of FirstHealth Outpatient Rehabilitation. “Our therapists use research and proven techniques to help people get ‘back to motion,’ and they have extensive experience in examining, diagnosing and treating conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life.”
