New Generation Digital Mammography System Now Available at MMH

TROY – FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital has added a new digital mammography system to its imaging program.
The hospital’s GE Healthcare Senographe Care mammography system offers an increased level of patient comfort while at the same time providing excellent image quality that is produced with low-dose radiation exposure. More than 20 million women have now been imaged worldwide on the Senographe digital series – more than on any other system.
“Screening mammography is still recognized as the most effective tool available for the early detection of breast cancer,” says Pam Duncan, radiologic technologist, director of Imaging Services at Montgomery Memorial. “And, according to a landmark study, digital mammography offers even greater benefits to certain groups of women.”
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women between the ages of 15 and 54 and the second cause of cancer death in women 55 to 74. However, 96 percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years. Because of this, a breast exam by a doctor should also be part of a periodic health exam every year for women age 40 and above.
