PINEHURST – It was the sixth year for the springtime Youth Triathlon with 200 kids swimming, biking and running on a closed course on the FirstHealth campus. The event was created by the staff of the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst to promote fitness in children ages 4 through 12.
With the help of numerous volunteers, the children swam in the center’s indoor pool, biked on a closed bike course that included the Fitness Center campus and Pinehurst Surgical parking lots, and ran on greenway trails. Volunteers came from the Pinecrest High School football team and Sandhills Striders as well as from the community.
Every participating child received a finisher’s medal after crossing the finish line, and awards went to the first-, second- and third-place boy and girl in each race. The list of winners is as follows:
Ages 4-5 – Boys: Andy Oates, first; William Chopping, second; and Nikolas Inman, third; Girls: Lillian Ball, first; Dylan Macrae, second; and Lily Pope, third.
Ages 6-7 – Boys: Charlie Kuzma, first; Noah Ross, second; and Will Miller, third; Girls: Van-Anh Nguyen, first; Breckyn Kornachuk, second; and Mai Huynh, third.
Ages 8-9 – Boys: Caden Tolentino, first; Jordan Greenblatt, second; and Luke Basinger, third; Girls: Gabriella Luneau, first; Brooke LaFrenz, second; and Owen Soccorso, third.
Ages 10-12 – Boys: Trent Wimberly, first; Patrick Luneau, second; and Jake LaFrenz, third; Girls: Paige Tolentino, first; Gabrielle Wood, second; and Caitlin Stevens, third.
