2013 FHC Youth Triathlon to Benefit Children’s CARE Fund

PINEHURST – The FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst will partner with The Foundation of FirstHealth in a fundraising effort for the Children’s CARE Fund in conjunction with the sixth annual FirstHealth Youth Triathlon.

The event will be held Saturday, May 18, and will feature four races for children ages 4 to 12. Triathlon participants will have the opportunity to collect donations from family and friends in support of the Children’s CARE Fund, which was established by the Foundation to provide early intervention for children who need, but cannot afford quality health care. 

Suggested donations are $5 per Triathlon leg (swim, bike and run), and donation envelopes are available at the front desk of the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst. The child collecting the most donations will win a bicycle donated by Rainbow Cycles of Southern Pines.

The 2013 Youth Triathlon will feature four age- and distance-appropriate events. The first event will be for ages 4-5 and will start at 12:15 p.m. It will be followed by ages 6-7 at 1 p.m., 8-9 at 2 p.m. and 10-12 at 3 p.m.

Each event – pool swim, closed bike course and greenway trail run – will be done on a closed course.

The cost to participate is $30 per child or $35 for late registration after May 10. To register, visit the Center for Health & Fitness in Pinehurst or go to www.firsthealth.org/youthtriathlon and download a registration form that can be returned by mail. (Race day registrations will not be accepted.) Course maps are available on the website.

Late registration and packet pick-up will be held Friday, May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pinehurst location.

Prep clinics to help participants prepare for the triathlon will be held as follows:

  • Swim Clinic, Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m.
  • Bike Clinic, Friday, May 3, at 4 p.m.
  • Run/Transition Area Clinic, Friday, May 10, at 4 p.m.

The cost of each clinic is $5 per child. To register, call 715-1800.

A Parents’ Information Night will be held Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst.
