FirstHealth of the Carolinas Hosts Annual Medical Symposium

PINEHURST – Physicians and other health care providers from throughout North Carolina participated in the 20th Annual Pinehurst Medical Symposium in Pinehurst March 2 and 3.

Dr. A. Blanton Godfrey, of North Carolina State University, does a presentation on performance-improving quality tools during the Pinehurst Medical Symposium at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Held at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and sponsored by the FirstHealth of the Carolinas Office of Continuing Medical Education, the two-day program centered on technologies and treatments that improve patient care in a number of areas including macular degeneration, dementia, skin concerns, screenings, infectious diseases, quality and oncology.

Particular focus was placed on caring for the aging and disease prevention among the aging population.

Members of the faculty came from national medical centers as well as from the hosting FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Pinehurst Medical Clinic, N.C. State University and the State Department of Motor Vehicles. They were as follows:

Fox, M.D., dermatology, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Ilene S. Browner, M.D., medical oncology and geriatric medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Paul S. Jawanda, M.D., internal medicine and infectious diseases, FirstHealth of the Carolinas; Debbie Jones, N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles; John W. Bachman, M.D., family medicine, Mayo Clinic; A. Blanton Godfrey, Ph.D., North Carolina State University; E. Claire Dees, M.D., medical oncology and internal medicine, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at  Chapel Hill; Michael A. Pritchett, D.O., MPH, pulmonary diseases and internal medicine, Pinehurst Medical Clinic; and Kristy Lee, M.S., CGS, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Physician participants are eligible for continuing education credits from the North Carolina Medical Society.
