FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital recognized in Business North Carolina Magazine’s “best hospital” rankings

| Date Posted: 3/25/2013

PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital was recognized as one of the state’s best hospitals and as a top hospital in patient satisfaction in the March edition of Business North Carolina Magazine.

In the magazine’s “Patient Picks” list, Moore Regional ranked No. 8 as a result of high patient satisfaction rankings in surveys conducted by The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.  The national survey asks patients if they would recommend the hospital to family or friends after considering such factors as outcomes, pain control, hospital noise and cleanliness, how quickly nurses respond, explanation of tests and procedures, and discharge instructions.

“Patient Picks” are the state’s top adult acute-care hospitals with 50 or more beds.  In North Carolina, 71 percent of the patients surveyed said they would recommend their hospital to family or friends.  The national average is 70 percent.

At Moore Regional, the percentage of patients recommending the hospital is well above both state and national averages, placing it in Business NC’s top hospital list for patient satisfaction.

“Providing an exceptional experience for our patients is a top priority for FirstHealth,” says Cindy McDonald, vice president of Quality for FirstHealth of the Carolinas.  “Our staff strives for quality and excellence in all patient interactions, and we are extremely pleased to be recognized as a top hospital for patient satisfaction.”

In addition to its acknowledgement for high patient satisfaction, Moore Regional Hospital was recognized as one of Business NC’s best hospitals in the state.  More than 100 North Carolina hospitals were compared on varying quality measures to assemble the list, which followed an analysis of data from Medicare and Medicaid, the North Carolina Hospital Association and other sources. The 13 weighted criteria included patient satisfaction; death rate for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia; patient-safety records and hospital-acquired conditions for procedures such as heart and vascular surgery, joint replacement and female reproductive surgery; and independent experience data compiled by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, The Leapfrog Group and U.S. News & World Report.

“We are very pleased to again be recognized by Business North Carolina as one of the state’s best hospitals and a top hospital for patient satisfaction,” says David J. Kilarski, chief executive officer for FirstHealth of the Carolinas.  “Our physicians, nurses and ancillary health care professionals provide high-quality care to our patients, and it is an honor to be recognized as one of the state’s top hospitals in a grouping that also includes the large academic hospitals.”

In a recent ranking by U.S. News & World Report, Moore Regional was one of 21 hospitals recognized as a “standout hospital” for performing higher than the national norm in the specialties of cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.
