RAEFORD – In his first career, Michael Nissen was a crew chief responsible for the well-being of helicopters at U.S. Army bases in Germany and at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Now he’s a medical professional responsible for the physical well-being of patients.
“I love getting patients well,” he says. “I have always enjoyed the total patient and trying to put the ‘puzzle’ of the disease process together.”
Nissen recently joined the FirstHealth Family Care Center-Raeford as a family nurse practitioner. He previously was a family nurse practitioner with the Hospitalist Service at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A graduate of West Georgia College in Carrollton, Ga., with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, Nissen earned his Master of Science in Nursing, Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, from Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga. In addition to urgent care and hospitalist nursing, he is experienced in cardiac cath lab, radiology and diagnostic imaging nursing.
Certified as a family nurse practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Nissen enjoys spending his free time in outdoor pursuits.
“I love the outdoors,” he says, “kayaking, canoeing, camping, hiking, scuba diving, paragliding, basically all outdoor activity.”
At the Raeford Family Care Center, Nissen fills a position left vacant with the departure of Chris McLaren, P.A.-C. Now a certified physician assistant with FirstCare, FirstHealth’s urgent care clinic in Raeford, McLaren received his physician assistant degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
The FirstHealth Family Care Center-Raeford is located at 313 Teal Drive. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Appointments can be made by calling (910) 904-2350. The center also holds a walk-in-only clinic every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
FirstHealth FirstCare is located at 4565 Fayetteville Road, Raeford. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
