32nd Annual Turkey Trot Set for Nov. 17; Temporary Road Closures in Pinehurst

| Date Posted: 11/6/2012

PINEHURST – The FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness in partnership with Pinehurst Recreation and Parks will host the 32nd Annual Turkey Trot running event on Saturday, Nov. 17.  The fall fun event will take place at Cannon Park, the new venue that was added last year with great success.

Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages are encouraged to participate.

The 2011 event attracted more than 1,900 runners in the four featured events. Because of another expected large volume of participants, some of the roads affected by the course route will be closed temporarily during race time. The new routes will begin and end at Cannon Park and will wind through the quaint village and residential areas of Pinehurst.

Roads affected by the race will be Rattlesnake, McCaskill, Dundee, Woods, Short, Everette, Graham, Rassie Wicker, Magnolia and McIntyre. The closures will be from about 9 to 11 a.m. Parking for the event will be available at Pinehurst Elementary, FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Pinehurst Surgical.

The Turkey Trot will begin with a one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m. The Half Marathon will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the 5K & 10K races at 9:30 a.m. Chip timing for start and finish will be provided for the 5K, 10K & Half Marathon.

The Youth Turkey Trot Half Marathon will be part of the event for the second year.  Kids up to age 15 who have logged 9 or 12.1 miles between Oct. 10 and Nov 18 will be eligible to finish the last 5K or mile in the Turkey Trot. The $15 cost will include a log form, event registration, a special Youth Half T-shirt and a finisher’s medal.

For more details about the 32nd Annual Turkey Trot, visit the related website at www.firsthealth.org/turkeytrot where you can download a registration form and view the new course routes. Registration is also available at www.active.com.

Packet Pick-Up/Late Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst and again on Saturday, Nov. 17, beginning at 7 a.m. at Cannon Park. Race registration will close 45 minutes before each race’s start time. For questions, contact Jodi Heimrich at 715-1843 or by email at jheimrich@firsthealth.org.
