ASHEBORO – As obesity rates continue to grow across the nation, many are discovering bariatric surgery is an option that can lead to a healthier life.
You can learn more about the weight-loss option of bariatric surgery during a free informational seminar on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. at Premier Medical Complex, 610 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro.
Raymond Washington, M.D., medical director of FirstHealth’s Bariatric Center, will explain what bariatric surgery involves and the weight-loss surgery options FirstHealth offers.
“Obesity continues to be an epidemic in the United States, putting many at risk for various diseases and health conditions,” says Dr. Washington. “When combined with a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, bariatric surgery has the potential to be an effective and long-lasting weight-loss method.”
Individuals who are more than 100 pounds overweight, have a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 40 (or greater than 35 with other medical conditions), or have a history of failure to control weight through other methods such as diet and exercise are likely candidates for bariatric surgery.
Benefits of bariatric surgery include a significant, long-term weight loss, effective control of Type 2 diabetes, effective control of high blood pressure and improved confidence.
For more information or for directions, please call (800) 213-3284 or visit www.ncweightlosssurgery.org. If you plan to attend the seminar please arrive 20-30 minutes early for calculation of your body mass index. This event is open to the public.
