Zimmer Mobile Learning Center to Visit Health & Fitness Campus

PINEHURST –Joint replacement involves removing the painful, damaged parts of the hip, knee or shoulder and replacing them with artificial parts called prostheses or implants. Orthopedic surgeons associated with FirstHealth of the Carolinas performed more than 1,400 replacement surgeries at Moore Regional Hospital between Sept. 1, 2011, and Aug. 31, 2012.
Moore County residents will be able to get information about joint replacement surgery and other advancements in orthopedic technology during an upcoming visit of the Zimmer Mobile Learning Center to the FirstHealth campus in Pinehurst.
The mobile facility will be at the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. The hands-on educational information of the 45-foot Zimmer Mobile Learning Center is free and open to the public. Each year since 1992, the traveling educational facility has visited thousands of locations and averaged about 40,000 miles traveling across the U.S. to offer state-of-the-art information on joint replacement and other orthopedic procedures.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the number of joint replacements is skyrocketing. Currently, more than 475,000 U.S. residents undergo knee replacements annually with the number expected to reach 3.4 million per year by 2030. The Academy also estimates that the number of annual hip replacements, currently 234,000, will double by 2030.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas offers a variety of orthopedic services at both FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.
