Pain Specialist and Physical Therapist to Present Pain Program

RAEFORD – Back pain is one of the most common reasons why people visit the doctor’s office, and there are many causes for it. They range from the simple toils of daily life to the various ailments associated with growing older.
There are also a number of treatment options for back pain.
An anesthesiologist who specializes in pain management at the FirstHealth Back & Neck Pain Center and a physical therapist with the FirstHealth Center for Rehabilitation-Raeford will discuss these options as well as the causes and symptoms of back pain at an upcoming program at the FirstHealth Raeford Center.
Scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, from 6 to 7 p.m., the program is called “Steps to Achieving an Active and Pain-Free Lifestyle: Options for Back Pain.” Speakers will be Brian Thwaites, M.D., and David Botnick, DPT.
They will discuss the impacts of aging and how individuals can help prevent some of the negative effects of the aging process. They will focus on ways to help alleviate back pain as well as the various treatment options that include medications, procedures, physical therapy and surgery.
Dr. Thwaites, who specializes in anesthesiology and pain management at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, earned his medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine in Evanston, Ill. He completed his internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Botnick is the outpatient therapy supervisor for the Center for Rehabilitation-Raeford. He earned his master’s degree in health care administration and a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
