FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Troy to Offer Youth Fitness Camp

| Date Posted: 5/7/2012

TROY – Summers don’t have to be spent in front of the TV, and the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Troy will offer a fun and healthier alternative to youngsters in Montgomery County.

BLAST (Building Lively Active Strong Tweens) is a new youth fitness camp that will be offered at the Center this summer for children ages 9 to 12 years old. Camp times will be 8 a.m. to noon Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 18 to July 18.  The cost per child is $52 per week.

BLAST participants will be introduced to fitness and healthy living through a variety of games, workouts and equipment.  The program includes indoor and outdoor play, crafts, health education, nutritious snacks and a lot of fun.

Thanks to No Kid Hungry NC, a healthy breakfast and lunch will be provided to BLAST participants at no charge.  No Kid Hungry NC is a partnership between Share Our Strength® and NC Serves, a statewide nonprofit that supports the programs and initiatives of the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service to help end childhood hunger in North Carolina by 2015.

BLAST has been designated a 2012 feeding site by No Kid Hungry NC.

Camp participants should come dressed for indoor and outdoor physical activity.  Tennis shoes are required.  Participants also need to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and beach towel – each labeled with the child’s name.

For more information or to register for the summer youth fitness camp at the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Troy, call (910) 571-5480 or e-mail Kristen Cook at
