Bariatric Support Group

| Date Posted: 5/7/2012 | Author: Mandy McCue

FirstHealth’s Bariatric Program recognizes the changing needs of weight-loss patients.
To ensure quality care, we offer free bi-monthly support group meetings facilitated by our professional staff.
Support group meetings assist patients in addressing the many variables they may experience in their weight-loss journey.
Sessions have been shown to directly increase the chances of short- and long-term patient success. Following weight-loss surgery, patients not only face new eating and drinking behaviors but also difficulties in making sense of the role food plays in their life.
Surrounded by people who understand and have similar goals, group participants get up-to-date weight-loss information and have the opportunity to discuss personal issues associated with bariatric surgery. Our support group focuses on developing a new relationship with food.
Group topics center on dealing with nutritional and physical health as well as emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual well-being.
A typical support session includes a presentation and discussion on topics or a specific topic. Time is always set aside at the conclusion of each meeting to allow patients who are at the beginning of their bariatric surgery journey to ask questions of the group. Encouragement and support from your peers is an essential element to supplement your success.
