PINEHURST – The FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst will hold its fifth annual Youth Triathlon on Saturday, May 19, with four races featured for kids.
To prepare for the event, the staff at the Center will host a series of clinics. A swim clinic will be held on Friday, April 27; a bike clinic will be held on Friday, May 4; and a run/transition clinic will be held on Friday, May 11. All clinics begin at 4:30 p.m. The clinics are for children ages 4 to 12 years old, and the cost is $5 per clinic per child.

The triathlon will feature four age- and distance-appropriate events. Starting at 12:15 p.m., children ages 4 to 6 will take part in a 25-yard swim, .78-mile bike ride and 210-yard run.
The second race will start at 1 p.m. for ages 6 to 7, and the third race begins at 2 p.m. for ages 7 to 9. Participants in these races will swim 50 yards, bike 2.05 miles and run 404 yards.
Finally, at 3 p.m., the 10- to 12-year age group will start the most challenging of the events with a 125-yard swim, 3.71-mile bike ride and .47-mile run.
For all events, participants will have an indoor pool swim, closed bike course and a greenway trail run.
The cost for the Triathlon is $25 per child. A late registration of $30 is required if paid after May 11. There will be no race day registration.

Course maps are also available at the website. All participants will receive a T-shirt, backpack and finisher’s medal. Awards will be given to the first-place boy and girl in each race. Ribbons will be awarded to the second- and third-place boy and girl in each race.
Packet pick-up and late registration will be held at the Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 18. Packet pick-up will also be available at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Please check in one hour prior to race start.
All participants must furnish their own equipment including a swimsuit, towel, bike, bike helmet (required), running shoes and T-shirt.
A Parent’s Information Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, at the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness- Pinehurst.
