Moore Regional Nurses Recertified in Post Anesthesia Care

| Date Posted: 3/7/2012

PINEHURST – Four nurses at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital were recently granted recertification of their CPAN® (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse) status by the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification Inc. (ABPANC).

They are Juanita Bethune, R.N. III, CPAN; Jill Baxley, R.N., BSN, CPAN; Joy Hennings, R.N., BSN, CPAN; and PACU clinical director Belinda B. Pope, R.N., CPAN. They join the more than 9,000 other perianesthesia nurses who are currently certified in their specialty.

CPAN certification validates knowledge gained through professional education and experience. Nurses who take the next step beyond licensure by seeking a voluntary board certification credential demonstrate a commitment not only to the perianesthesia nursing profession but also to the promotion of quality patient care.

To achieve recertification, nurses must have a current, unrestricted R.N. license and a minimum of 1,200 hours of perianesthesia nursing experience. In addition, they must have either successfully completed a rigorous three-hour, 175 multiple-choice question examination or earned 90 contact hours through ABPANC’s continual learning program.

The certification credential is awarded for three years and must be renewed.

The CPAN certification program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC), formerly known as the ABNS Accreditation Council. ABSNC has determined that the CPAN certification program is based on a valid and reliable testing process and that the structures in place to administer these programs meet and even exceed the standards of the certification industry from a legal, regulatory and association management perspective.

All four of the recertified Moore Regional nurses work in the hospital’s Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
