ROCKINGHAM – FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Pinehurst Surgical have partnered to open a new surgical practice, FirstHealth Richmond Medical Group – General Surgery, on the campus of FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
The new office, which opened in early December in FirstHealth Richmond Medical Park, 921 Long Drive, Suite 208, is the latest specialty addition to Richmond Medical Group services that also include internal medicine, family medicine, orthopaedics and obstetrics/gynecology.
The three board certified Pinehurst Surgical surgeons affiliated with the new practice provide the full range of general surgery services including gallbladder and breast surgery, hernia repair and dialysis access. Fabian E. Alzamora, M.D.; H. Willy Chu, M.D.; and R. Clayton Steiner, M.D., are available for office consultations one day each on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday. They also partner with Zeidan F. Zeidan, M.D., of Richmond Medical Clinic, to offer 24/7 surgical call for Richmond Memorial Hospital.
Citing the need for a comprehensive general surgery practice in Richmond County, Dr. Chu points out that the varied specializations of the three Richmond Medical Group surgeons will include the dialysis access surgery available to patients undergoing treatment in Richmond Memorial’s new dialysis center.
“I think our group offers very good care, and we all have different specialties and techniques,” Dr. Chu says. “We are very excited about being here in Richmond County and helping out. I think we fit right in.”
Dr. Alzamora earned his medical degree from Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Prince George’s Hospital, Cheverly, Md.
His practice specializations include breast diseases and breast cancer, colonoscopies and colon cancer, hernia surgery and open and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.
Dr. Chu received his medical degree from Duke University in Durham and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center in Massachusetts.
His practice specializations include gallbladder surgery, breast and colon cancers, hernias, in-office removal of skin lesions and dialysis surgery.
Dr. Steiner received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where he also completed his internship and residency in general surgery. He was also fellowship-trained in trauma and critical care at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Dr. Steiner’s practice specializations include laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, thyroid surgery and surgical critical care.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Alzamora, Dr. Chu and Dr. Steiner, three surgeons with extensive surgical training and experience, to the Richmond County medical community,” says John Jackson, president of Richmond Memorial Hospital. “The availability of their varied specializations will not only allow our surgical patients to be seen in a local office but also to have surgery in their hometown hospital. It’s important to us to be able to offer this service to Richmond County.”
