Moore Regional Hospital chosen for national nursing research study

PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst is one of 112 hospitals chosen by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to participate in a multi-state study to evaluate safety and quality outcomes in nurse transition-to-practice programs. The study will follow newly licensed registered nurses in hospitals and other hospital settings in North Carolina, Illinois and Ohio during their first year of employment.
The Transition to Practice Study (TTPS) will compare patient outcomes in organizations that use the NCSBN transition model with organizations that use their own methods of transition. While previous studies have looked at retention rates, new nurse satisfaction, preceptor satisfaction, and nurses’ perceptions of competence and confidence, the TTPS study is the first to analyze actual patient outcomes in programs that transition new nurses to practice.
Site coordinators for the FirstHealth study, which also includes the Richmond Memorial Hospital campus in Rockingham, are Tabitha Stewart, R.N., BSN, MBA, CNOR, ONC, nurse clinician; and Deana Kearns, R.N.-BC, MSN, clinical director of Clinical Practice and Professional Development.
