Bicycle transportation expert and author Mia Birk autographs copies of her books for guests attending the "Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet" community lecture and book-signing event sponsored by FirstHealth Community Health Services and the Foundation of FirstHealth. Birk's book, "Joyride," is a behind-the-scenes story of how a group of determined visionaries transformed a Portland, Ore., community into a cycling mecca and inspired the nation. During the Sept. 6 community lecture, Birk shared the lessons and tools needed to create more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly communities in Moore County.
