FirstHealth partners with Pinehurst Parks and Recreation for new Turkey Trot
| Date Posted: 8/3/2011
PINEHURST – The FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst has made some major changes in an effort to improve its ever-popular Turkey Trot running event. In the event’s 31st year of existence, the Center for Health & Fitness will partner with Pinehurst Parks and Recreation to move the Turkey Trot just across Highway 211 to Cannon Park.
In recent years, the Turkey Trot has grown to include more than 1,300 runners in four featured events. Due to the large volume of participants, the change of venue was necessary to provide a fun yet safe race for all involved, race organizers say. The new routes will begin and end at Cannon Park and will wind through the quaint village and residential areas of Pinehurst.
The 2011 Turkey Trot will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, and start with a one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m. The Half-Marathon will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by the 5K and 10K races at 9:30 a.m.
New this year is a Youth Turkey Trot Half-Marathon. Kids up to age 15 can log 12.1 miles from Oct. 10 to Nov. 18 and then finish the last mile in the Turkey Trot One-Mile. The $15 cost will include a log form, registration to the One-Mile and a special Youth Half-Marathon T-shirt.
