Richmond Memorial Hospital to host Pregnancy Fair on July 26

ROCKINGHAM – Bringing a newborn home is usually a very exciting time. It can also be a very scary time, according to Nicole Eteo, R.N., director of Women & Children’s Services at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
For that reason, Eteo hopes all new and expectant moms in the Richmond County area will attend the upcoming Richmond Memorial Hospital Pregnancy Fair and pick up some important information about newborn care.
“It is my hope that the Pregnancy Fair will educate moms regarding how to be prepared for bringing their infant home,” Eteo says. “The Pregnancy Fair will offer tips on bathing, diapering, swaddling, car seat safety and many other topics. We will also offer tours of our Birthing Center in hopes of giving moms some comfort in knowing where they will be and what they can expect when they arrive at the hospital.”
The 2011 Richmond Memorial Hospital Pregnancy Fair will be held Tuesday, July 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the hospital’s auditorium. In addition to information on such topics as prenatal and infant care, neonatal services and breastfeeding, the program will include a presentation on “The Period of Purple Crying,” a time of normal but excessive infant crying that peaks at age 2 months and ends between 4 and 5 months.
Event giveaways will include Huggies gift packs, and there will be drawing for “Purple Crying” T-shirts and a large gift basket filled with diapers; formula; a stuffed toy; sippy cups; an infant outfit, hair brush and towel; and pacifiers.
Vendors from across the area will also be present with a variety of giveaways to share.
The event is free, and light refreshments will be served. New and expectant parents and their families are invited to attend.
