PINEHURST – For the second year in a row, FirstHealth of the Carolinas has received statewide recognition for its outstanding commitment and support to the community through local involvement in the United Way.  FirstHealth received the Spirit of North Carolina Award for Campaign Excellence, which is sponsored annually by the United Way of North Carolina.

The Spirit Awards were developed to recognize companies and their employees that demonstrate campaign excellence and community commitment.  The Spirit Committee judged almost 70 outstanding submissions from top companies, organizations, governmental entities, health care and educational institutions, as well as businesses – large and small.  The awards were presented during the United Way of North Carolina’s Annual Meeting on Feb. 18 in Pinehurst.
Organizations and companies were judged on a variety of criteria outlined in the Spirit of North Carolina Standards of Excellenceincluding leadership giving, volunteerism, employee participation and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive programs and campaign rallies just to name a few.
Every year, employers within the community rally their employees to join their co-workers in raising money for the annual United Way campaign.  Worksite campaigns account for nearly half of the total amount of money raised for the overall community-wide effort, underscoring just how important the contributions of Moore County’s workforce are to the United Way.

This year, FirstHealth employees contributed an impressive $102,141 to the Moore County United Way.  That’s nearly 18 percent of the total goal for the entire community campaign and an all-time record for employee contributions to the United Way.

“Economic conditions continue to make the need in our community greater than ever,” says Linda Pearson, executive director, Moore County United Way.

“The United Way is grateful for the generosity shown by FirstHealth employees.  Their contributions, combined with donations from other companies and individuals, are making a great impact toward improving the quality of life for so many people in our community who are struggling with issues of life.”
