Swim, bike, race clinics set for FirstHealth’s 2010 Youth Triathlon
PINEHURST – Races for four different age groups of kids will highlight the third annual Youth Triathlon to be sponsored by the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst on Saturday, May 15.
The FirstHealth staff will host a series of pre-event preparation clinics that will begin with a swim clinic on Friday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m. A bike clinic will be held on Friday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m., and a run/transition clinic will be held on Friday, May 7, also at 4:30 p.m.
The clinics are for ages 4-12, and the cost is $5 per clinic per child. Registration is required for each clinic.

The Youth Triathlon on May 15 will feature four age- and distance-appropriate events that will begin at 12:15 p.m. with the event for children ages 4-5. These children will swim 25 yards, bike .78 miles and run 210 yards.
Race 2, for children ages 6-7, will begin at 1 p.m. while Race 3, for ages 8-9, will start at 2 p.m. These participants will swim 50 yards, bike 2.05 miles and run 404 yards.
The most challenging event, Race 4, will begin at 3 p.m. when children ages 10-12 will swim 125 yards, bike 3.71 miles and run .47 miles.
For all age groups, participants will have an indoor pool swim, closed bike course and a greenway trail run.
The cost to participate in the triathlon is $25 per child or $30 per child if registration occurs after May 6. There will be no race day registration. Each participant must furnish his/her own equipment including a swimsuit and towel, bike and bike helmet (required), running shoes and T-shirt.
You can register at the FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness or go to www.firsthealth.org and download a registration form to mail in. Packet pickup and late registration will be held at the Center for Health & Fitness on Friday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt, backpack and finisher’s medal. Awards will go to the first-place male and female in each age division.
A Parents’ Information Night will be held on Thursday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m.
