FirstHealth Hospice to Hold Advance Directives Event in April
| Date Posted: 3/2/2023
WEST END, N.C. -- FirstHealth is recognizing National Healthcare Decisions Day on Thursday, April 13 with a drive-thru event to help people prepare their advance directives, including living wills and health care powers of attorney.
Held at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care at 251 Campground Road, West End, the event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 13.
Ellen Willard, M.D., a Palliative Medicine physician with FirstHealth, said it’s important for families to have difficult discussions about medical care.
“Advance directives give you the chance to designate who would make health care decisions for you if you were unable to make decisions for yourself, and to provide them with some basic information about your desires in certain situations,” Willard said. “It is always best to begin these conversations before you are facing the stress of hospitalization.”
There is no cost to attend. Participants are expected to download and complete both documents listed on www.firsthealth.org/advancedirectives.
Discuss your decisions with your loved ones and bring the completed documents to the drive-thru to have them notarized. Forms will be provided on-site as needed.
If you have questions regarding your advance directives or the event, please call (910) 715-6000.
