Cardiac Electrophysiologist Joins Pinehurst Medical Clinic and FirstHealth Cardiology

| Date Posted: 8/5/2022

PINEHURST, N.C. – Joan Alberto Maradey, M.D., has joined FirstHealth Cardiology - Pinehurst Medical Clinic as a cardiac electrophysiology specialist and started seeing patients on Monday, Aug. 1. He will serve patients at Pinehurst Medical – East, located at 205 Page Road in Pinehurst.

Dr. Maradey earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of North Carolina (UNC) before completing a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He most recently finished a clinical cardiac electrophysiology (EP) fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Maradey attributed his early interest in health care to having a younger sibling with a developmental delay and experiencing his medical care from a young age.

“My interest in cardiac electrophysiology, specifically, developed throughout my cardiology fellowship,” he said. “I enjoy the challenging diagnostic problem solving and unique procedural components that are inherent to EP.”

Prior to joining FirstHealth Cardiology – Pinehurst Medical Clinic, Dr. Maradey worked as an internal medicine provider for MDLIVE, an online telemedicine platform. He has participated in a number of research projects and has gained valuable experience through teaching and volunteering in various communities.

Dr. Maradey spent time volunteering at the UNC Internal Medicine Latino Clinic, an outpatient clinic designed to serve the underprivileged Spanish-speaking population of North Carolina, in addition to other volunteer efforts.

Originally from Colombia, Dr. Maradey migrated to New York at the age of seven. Throughout his medical training, he said he realized he wanted to practice in a rural setting and have the opportunity to be part of a small community.

“Due to my Latin heritage, I wanted to practice in an area where there was a population of Latino and Hispanic patients that could also benefit from arrhythmia care,” he said.

Dr. Maradey is married with two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl. He enjoys spending time with his family, staying physically active and working on simple carpentry.
