RAEFORD, N.C. -- A certified family nurse practitioner with years of experience is joining FirstHealth Primary Care in Raeford.
Jamie Dickerhoff, FNP-C, has worked as a nurse practitioner throughout the Sandhills since earning her Master of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University in 2009. At Primary Care in Raeford, she’ll work closely with Linda K. Hughes, M.D., James Mergy, M.D. and Andrew LePorte, D.O.
Dickerhoff said she’s excited to help people “feel better about themselves” at FirstHealth’s Raeford clinic.
“I have a passion for geriatric patients. I also find obesity and weight loss to be very rewarding. Every day is a new day in primary care. I have done my job well if I do my best to treat my patients with respect and dignity,” she said. “The best advice I have ever received was, ‘If you just listen to your patient, they will tell you what is wrong with them.’ I want every patient to feel as though I care about them and what they have to say is important.”
Dickerhoff said she knew early on in life that she wanted to work in medicine. She became a nurse in 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland.
“I have always wanted to be a nurse. It sounds cliché, but it was truly a calling. I graduated as an R.N. in 1983 and then fulfilled my lifelong goal to become a nurse practitioner in 2009,” Dickerhoff said.
Outside of work, Dickerhoff said she enjoys spending time with her family. She has been married to her husband, John, for 37 years, and they have three sons and two grandsons. She also likes to travel, play golf, run, listen to music and cook.
To make an appointment with Jamie Dickerhoff, call FirstHealth’s Physician Offices & Specialty Center (6322 Fayetteville Road, Raeford) at (910) 878-6700. The practice is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
