FirstHealth Primary Care – Hoke Welcomes New Family Nurse Practitioner

RAEFORD - FirstHealth of the Carolinas Primary Care has welcomed a new family nurse practitioner at its Hoke location. Amanda Wendenburg, FNP-BC, will start seeing patients on Sept. 7 at the Raeford office.
She joined the staff of James Mergy, M.D., Andrew LePorte, D.O, and Jamie Dickerhoff, FNP-C. Prior to joining FirstHealth Primary Care, Wendenburg worked at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke as a registered nurse and supervisor for more than five years.
While working at the hospital, she utilized FirstHealth’s Continuing Education in Nursing program to earn both her Bachelor of Science in nursing and Master of Science in family nurse practitioner from the University of Texas at El Paso. Wendenburg said she followed in her mother’s footsteps to pursue a career in health care.
“My mom was an operating room nurse and a single mom, who sometimes had to bring me along during after hours,” she said. “I became interested in health care after spending a lot of time in a small-town hospital’s operating room on-call room.”
Originally from Texas, Wendenburg relocated to North Carolina when her husband was stationed at Fort Bragg. She said she has grown to love the community and is excited to continue to serve Hoke County residents in the primary care setting.
“I would see numerous patients come through the emergency department for primary care complaints,” she said. “I want to help bridge the gap in care and promote health and wellness across the lifespan.”
In her spare time, Wendenburg enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband, Daniel, and their three children, John, Ben and Amelia.
