Cardiologist Ajay Uprety, M.D., Joins FirstHealth and Reid Heart Center Team

| Date Posted: 8/20/2021

PINEHURST, N.C. - FirstHealth of the Carolinas recently welcomed a new cardiologist, Ajay Uprety, M.D.

Uprety will treat patients at Reid Heart Center in Pinehurst after recently completing a cardiovascular fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in New York. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital in Missouri and attended medical school in Nepal.

Uprety said he’s excited to join the team of providers and staff serving patients at Reid Heart Center. “The impact that the FirstHealth system has made in the community could not go unnoticed when I visited,” he said. “The Cardiology team has been providing excellent care to people in the Sandhills.”

Uprety said he was drawn to work in the medical field because he wants to help others.

“Helping people provides me a sense of happiness. My maternal uncle is a successful internist, and I think he was also one of the reasons I was inspired to pursue a career in health care,” he said. “My personal experience also motivated me to work in cardiology. My maternal grandfather died young while waiting for aortic valve surgery, and that incident inspired me to pursue cardiology.”

Outside of work, Uprety said he enjoys biking, hiking and spending time with his young daughter.

FirstHealth Cardiology is committed to meeting the area’s growing need for access to cardiac care, specializing in treating several diseases and conditions to include coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, arrhythmias, and much more.
