Tom Wilkins, PA-C, Joining FirstHealth Family Medicine in Whispering Pines

Whispering Pines, N.C. -- FirstHealth of the Carolinas is welcoming Tom Wilkins, PA-C, to its family medicine clinic in Whispering Pines.
Wilkins, who is joining Todd Nicholson, PA-C, brings a wealth of family medicine experience to Whispering Pines after spending the last 18 years providing care in the Sandhills. He has also worked for 10 years to care for patients at FirstHealth’s Convenient Care clinics.
“I chose family practice early in my career, 30 years ago. I enjoy exploring all the possibilities and complexities of general medicine,” Wilkins said. “The broad scope of medical practice from children to young and older adults keeps each encounter and each day unique and exciting.”
Wilkins earned his Bachelor and Master of Physician Assistant Studies degrees from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Prior to working in family medicine, he spent time as a physician assistant in the United States Air Force and served for more than 20 years.
Wilkins said family members likely inspired his path to medicine.
“My uncle was a practicing pediatrician, and my mother was an occupational therapist. I always found it interesting and thought going into the medical field would be my direction,” he said.
Outside of work, Wilkins enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, music, being outside and traveling.
The Family Medicine clinic in Whispering Pines can meet the health needs of the entire family – from babies to grandparents. The clinic sees patients by appointment and offers same-day appointments for acute illnesses.
