FirstHealth and Pinehurst Surgical Welcome New Provider to FirstHealth OB/GYN in Lee County

SANFORD, N.C.—FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Pinehurst Surgical Clinic are pleased to welcome women’s health nurse practitioner Caroline Mathis to FirstHealth OB/GYN in Lee County.
Mathis relocated to the Sandhills area from Villages, Fla. where she served as a nurse practitioner for a specialty clinic offering comprehensive urology and gynecology care for women of all ages.
Mathis specializes in many areas of women’s health including osteoporosis management, urogynecology care and sexual dysfunction. “I enjoy taking care of the women who are always concerned about their health,” said Mathis. “I’m committed to providing the right information and the best care for my patients so they can make the best decisions about their health.”
Mathis earned her associate degree in nursing and later her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., and went on to earn her master’s in nursing, women’s health nurse practitioner, from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.
She said she first became interested in nursing when she cared for her grandmother growing up. “My grandmother is the reason I chose nursing. She had many different illnesses, which created a passion for me to pursue a nursing career.”
When she’s not caring for patients, Mathis enjoys reading and outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and taking walks with her golden retriever. Her husband is an airplane and helicopter pilot, and the two enjoy traveling and discovering new places. They look forward to the seasonal changes in North Carolina and hope to start a garden soon.
FirstHealth OB/GYN is located at 1818 Doctors Drive in Sanford. The practice will relocate to FirstHealth Lee Campus this summer.
