PINEHURST, N.C. - FirstHealth of the Carolinas is continuing to offer COVID-19 vaccines and boosters and encourages people throughout the Sandhills to ensure they are protected heading into the Christmas season.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently strengthened its recommendation on booster shots for people who are 18 years and older. Everyone who is eligible should get a booster shot either 6 months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series or 2 months after their Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“The recent emergence of the Omicron variant further emphasizes the importance of vaccination, boosters, and prevention efforts needed to protect against COVID-19. Early data from South Africa suggest increased transmissibility of the Omicron variant, and scientists in the United States and around the world are urgently examining vaccine effectiveness related to this variant,” CDC Director Rochelle Wolensky said in a statement.
People in the Sandhills have plenty of options for getting COVID-19 vaccines at local pharmacies and health departments. FirstHealth is also administering shots at several of its primary care clinics across our service area. Appointments are required. Anyone 18 and older is eligible to be vaccinated, and those 12 and older can be scheduled to receive a Pfizer vaccine by their parent or legal guardian. Please call (910) 715-7468 to schedule an appointment at one of our clinics.
