Compassionate Care During Trying Times: MRH-Hoke Nurse Honored with DAISY Award

Raeford, N.C. -- FirstHealth of the Carolinas nurse Jamie Jones, BSN, R.N., has been honored with the DAISY Award for August 2021. Jones, an emergency room nurse at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke, was nominated by a patient.
“Thank you, Jamie, for providing comfort, compassion and helping me during one of the scariest times of my life,” the patient wrote. “I came into the hospital with COVID-19 and had difficulty breathing. Jamie cared for me and helped ease my mind. All I can say is thank you for everything you have done for me.”
Anastasia Jennings, R.N., Jones’ nurse manager, said she is a great nurse and leader.
“Jamie has worked at MRH - Hoke for a little over one year. Jamie is calm, kind and patient in all interactions no matter how wonderful or difficult the situation,” Jennings said. “She is a charge nurse on the unit and helps mold and guide our newer staff. Jamie always provides excellent patient, team and family care. Jamie often goes above and beyond for her team and patients.”
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.
Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award. FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, recognizes an extraordinary nurse each month and has since 2014.
