PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, including its Richmond and Hoke campuses, has once again been recognized as one of the state’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
In the publication’s annual Best Hospital’s recognition, Moore Regional was ranked 11th in the state.
“We are honored to once again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” says David J. Kilarski, chief executive officer for FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “This latest achievement comes on the heels of Moore Regional’s recognition by Truven Health Analytics as the only hospital in North Carolina to receive its 100 Top Hospital national designation. Members of our staff make these types of recognitions possible through the care they provide to our patients each and every day. Because of the dedication and expertise of FirstHealth professionals, our patients have access to state-of-the-art health care services close to home.”
The annual Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 28th year, are part of the U.S. News patient portal, which is designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions or for common elective procedures.
For the 2017-18 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 152 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high-performing across multiple areas of care.
The U.S. News methodologies include risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, quality of nursing care and other care-related indicators.
Moore Regional achieved the highest rating possible in six procedures/conditions including heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, COPD, hip replacement and knee replacement. The hospital was also ranked high-performing in the specialties of geriatrics, pulmonology and urology.
“Recognition by U.S News & World Report and other rating outlets like Truven Health proves that FirstHealth is what we have known for a long time - a high-quality and high-performing health system,” says John Krahnert, M.D., FirstHealth’s chief medical officer. “We are proud that FirstHealth’s staff provides such exceptional health care services to our communities. Being recognized validates the outstanding efforts of our physicians, nurses, other clinicians and all who support them for their work. Without their compassion and commitment to our patients, this recognition would not be possible.”
The U.S. News rankings, freely available at www.usnews.com/best-hospitals, will appear in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2018” guidebook.
