Allison Scott, FNP
PINEHURST – Allison Scott, FNP, has joined FirstHealth Cardiology, helping to expand the FirstHealth service further into Scotland and Robeson counties.
A native of Robeson County, Scott grew up in Lumberton and graduated from Purnell Swett High School. She received her associate degree in nursing from Robeson Community College in Lumberton in 2003.
Scott earned her Master of Science in Nursing: Family Nursing Practitioner degree from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2010.
She spent more than 10 years as a nurse practicing in emergency and cardiac cath lab medicine, before receiving her master’s degree and becoming a nurse practitioner.
Prior to joining FirstHealth, Scott worked with Duke Cardiology of Lumberton and Duke Cardiovascular Surgery of Lumberton.
She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and is nationally certified in cardiovascular nursing.
“I did not choose to practice cardiology – cardiology chose me,” Scott says. “As a former cath lab nurse, I learned a great deal about coronary disease and the prevalence of heart disease in my home county. Because of this, I wanted to help decrease heart disease through personalized cardiac care and education of heart disease.”
According to the Robeson County Health Department’s 2015 State of the County Health Report, cardiovascular disease is not only the top cause of hospitalization in Robeson County, but also the leading cause of death in the county.
“I believe the need is here in both Robeson and Scotland counties to educate and empower patients on the importance of heart disease prevention,” she says. “I joined FirstHealth because of the reputation FirstHealth has in providing quality customer service and exceptional care for their patients. Working for FirstHealth Cardiology in Laurinburg and Pembroke, and surrounding communities, will allow me the opportunity to care for patients more effectively.”
Scott will see patients at FirstHealth Cardiology – Pembroke, located at 812 Candy Park Road, Suite 6101-A in Pembroke three days a week, and patients at FirstHealth Cardiology-Laurinburg, located at 1705-A Berwick Drive in Laurinburg two days a week.
“Allison is very well respected in the community by patients and providers,” says Dan Barnes, D.O., president of FirstHealth Physician Group. “Having a consistent presence in the region will help serve the cardiology needs of patients in Scotland and Robeson Counties.”
Scott resides in Lumberton with her three children.
