PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital has received the top “A” grade on Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades that were announced Oct. 31 by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog.
Moore Regional was one of 844 hospitals to receive an “A,” ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States.
“I am proud that Moore Regional has been recognized by the Leapfrog Group for our demonstrated commitment to ensuring patient safety,” says David J. Kilarksi, CEO of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “I would like to thank our physicians, nurses and staff who work every day to provide a safe environment and the best possible care for our patients. This is indeed an honor to be shared among the entire FirstHealth family.”
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. Calculated by top patient safety experts, it is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”

The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions.
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, Leapfrog’s other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
