RAEFORD – Wound and hyperbaric care will be the next medical specialty to be offered by FirstHealth of the Carolinas to residents of Hoke County and surrounding communities.
FirstHealth Wound Care & Hyperbaric-Hoke will open Feb. 10 in FirstHealth Physician Offices & Specialty Services, the new medical office building located at 6322 Fayetteville Road, Raeford, adjacent to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke Campus.
The individualized treatment plans of FirstHealth wound care services, which are designed to complement the referring physician’s plan of care, include the monitoring, management and treatment of chronic non-healing wounds.
“We are extremely happy to be able to offer wound and hyperbaric care in Hoke County,” says Susan Beaty, R.N., administrator of FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke Campus. “Wound care is a medical specialty that is helpful with a variety of chronic conditions, including diabetes, vascular disease and cancer. The availability of a hyperbaric chamber increases the level of care that can be offered to patients so we expect this to be an extremely valuable service for this community.”
The director of the Hoke program is Stevie Hull of Healogics Inc., the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Since joining Healogics in 2011, Hull has worked with the Cape Fear Valley, Duke Raleigh and Sampson Regional wound care programs. A 2009 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, she is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts degree program at Liberty University.
As program director, Hull will oversee and manage the clinic’s quality, clinical and financial outcomes. She will work closely with physicians and the nursing staff to ensure they have the resources to achieve the best possible results for their patients.
“We are committed to advancing wound healing by creating, sharing and activating our wound care expertise, everywhere we can, for every patient who would benefit, by the best means possible,” she says.
The medical staff of the FirstHealth wound care & hyperbaric program will consist of medical director David Strom, M.D., a board certified orthopaedic surgeon; and full-time wound care physician Jeffrey Gibbons, M.D., who is board certified in emergency medicine. The staff will also include clinical coordinator Cynthia Thompkins, office coordinator Annie Faulk, hyperbaric oxygen technician DaNita Gillis and registered nurse Sibel Satirouglu.
The staggered opening of offices in the FirstHealth Physician Offices & Specialty Services began late last year with FirstHealth Primary Care & Cardiology and will continue through late winter/early spring with ENT (ear, nose and throat) and orthopaedics. Additional services will be added as community needs are identified.
