Need some help modifying your favorite recipes to bring to the swap?
Here are a few substitutions to help you during the holidays:
Got skim?: Forgo the whole or 2% milk and use skim instead.
Bye, bye butter: Omit butter or margarine from stuffing recipes. Add low sodium chicken broth instead.
Remove fat: Use a fat-skimmer cup to remove fat from the juices before gravy is made. The fat should rise to the top, making it easier for you to remove.
An apple a day: Try substituting applesauce for at least half or all the oil, margarine or butter in muffins. Swap out applesauce for milk and butter in cake recipes.
Go nuts: Enjoy slivered almonds on the top of casseroles instead of fried onions.
