PINEHURST – For the third consecutive year, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital has been recognized as a top-ranked Community Value Provider.
The recognition comes from Cleverley + Associates, a national health care data and consulting firm, which named Moore Regional a Five-Star® Community Value hospital and Top 100® hospital.
“We are honored to receive these designations,” says FirstHealth CEO David J. Kilarski. “Our goal is to assure maximized value in the services we provide by delivering high-quality, safe care and an exceptional patient experience while maintaining affordability for the communities we provide.”
Cleverley + Associates bases its annual ranking of hospitals on a Community Value Index (CVI) created to provide an assessment of a hospital’s performance in four areas: financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, pricing and quality. A CVI-based recognition suggests that a hospital provides value to the community when it is financially viable, appropriately reinvests back into the facility, maintains a low-cost structure, has reasonable charges and provides high-quality care to patients.
Measurements in these areas suggest that hospitals with the Community Value and Top 100 designations operate with a high degree of community value and continuously give back to the community they serve.
In 2012 alone, FirstHealth of the Carolinas provided $38 million in community benefit and $13.3 million in charity care for patients unable to pay for services. More than 114,000 employee and volunteer hours combined were contributed toward community benefit activities and 999 volunteers contributed more than 109,036 hours during 2012 to provide assistance at all FirstHealth hospitals and entities.
The Five-Star recognition places Moore Regional in the top 20 percent of all hospitals in North Carolina for providing exceptional value to the community. The hospital was one of only four North Carolina hospitals named a Community Value Top 100 hospital.
“These designations confirm that patients in our communities have no need to travel far for high-quality and affordable care,” says John Krahnert, M.D., Moore Regional’s chief medical officer. “Continued recognition for our hospitals is one more indicator that FirstHealth is among the nation’s top-performing health systems.”
