Art Edgerton, M.D.
PINEHURST – A heart surgeon with the Reid Heart Center: the FirstHealth Cardiac & Vascular Institute at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst will talk about issues related to quality performance during a Tuesday, Oct. 18, program in Fayetteville.
Art Edgerton, M.D., will be the featured speaker during the program, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Advanced Physical Therapy Solutions, 501 Executive Place, Fayetteville. He will explain why hospitals measure quality performance and how that impacts patient selection, outcomes and performance improvements efforts.
He will also discuss how public reporting of quality scores helps patients make informed decisions about choosing their hospital care.
A native North Carolinian, Dr. Edgerton came to FirstHealth in 2010 after spending much of his professional life in the Charlotte area. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wake Forest University and his medical degree from the Bowman Gray (now Wake Forest) School of Medicine.
Dr. Edgerton completed a general surgery residency and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Before joining FirstHealth’s heart-care team, he was associated with Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C., where he started the cardiothoracic surgery program in 1997.
Dr. Edgerton’s surgical specialties include coronary artery bypass, valvular heart surgery, lung surgery and carotid endarterectomy. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
