PINEHURST – It’s never too late to put more meaning into your life, to get healthier or to learn a new skill. These are the principal messages of this year’s Healthy, Wealthy & Wise conference for boomers, seniors and caregivers. Throughout the free, daylong program, attendees will learn how to access community resources, volunteer and give back, plan for their financial and medical future, understand and deal with health issues, and learn new skills or enhance current ones.
Healthy, Wealthy & Wise is scheduled for April 16 at the FirstHealth Conference Center and will be hosted by Sandhills Community College, the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center and FirstHealth Home Care.
“The conference is unique in that it doesn’t just focus on one topic – it focuses on the whole person,” says Jill Sherman of the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center. “As we age, our priorities, values and health needs change. Healthy, Wealthy and Wise will help us understand these changes and make the most of them.”
Dr. John Dempsey of Sandhills Community College will kick off the day with a welcome to attendees. Leslie Deane of FirstHealth of the Carolinas will provide the keynote address and serve as moderator of an impressive line up of medical experts, educators, legal experts, community activists and local entrepreneurs.
The list of presenters includes attorney Jennifer Garner; Moore County Chamber President Patrick Coughlin; physicians Sangeeta Varanasi, M.D., Otto Rogers, M.D., and Fernando Cobos, M.D.; education experts Lori Williams and Bill Croft; community experts Jill Sherman, Shiela Klein and Nancy Murphy; and health experts Irvin DuBose, Margaret Moody and Alvin Wilson. Interspersed throughout the day will be catered refreshments, entertainment, prizes, and giveaways from local organizations and businesses.
