Richmond Memorial Hospital employees Renee Lyons (left) and Pam Wilson demonstrate the proper way to “blanket” a baby in anticipation of the hospital’s upcoming Pregnancy Fair. Lyons is a patient care secretary, and Wilson, who is herself an expectant mother, is a registered nurse.
ROCKINGHAM – Expectant parents always have lots of questions about prenatal care and childbirth. New parents probably have even more questions about how to care for their newborn.
Residents of the Richmond County community can attend the upcoming FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital Pregnancy Fair and get their questions answered.
“The Pregnancy Fair is a great way for people to learn the basics about childbirth and parenting,” says Jacqueline McKinney, R.N., the hospital’s director of Women & Children’s Services. “They will also have a chance to ask our experts about more detailed questions or concerns that they may have.”
The Tuesday, Aug. 17, program will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Richmond Memorial Hospital Auditorium. Among the experts scheduled to be on hand to answer questions on various aspects of childbirth and labor will be obstetrics nurses Ann Beth Simmons, who will discuss breastfeeding, and Julie Baucom, whose subject will be anesthesia for labor.
Physicians from the FirstHealth Richmond Medical Group – Women’s Center will also be available to speak to those attending, and members of the hospital’s Women’s Services staff will offer tours of the RMH Birthing Center.
Vendors from throughout the Sandhills will be present with a variety of giveaways to share, and door prizes will be presented.
New and expectant parents are invited to participate, and there is no cost to attend. Registration is not necessary.
