FirstHealth physician assistant to discuss weight-loss resources
RAEFORD – Weight is an issue that millions of Americans deal with every day. It affects every segment of the population, regardless of age or income.
Amy Lockett, P.A.-C
Trying to lose weight can be overwhelming, especially when a person tries to go it alone. Fortunately, according to Amy Lockett, P.A.-C, FirstHealth Family Care Center-Raeford, there are more options than ever before for effective weight loss.
“Because a person can be neither too young nor too old to maintain or regain a healthy body weight, weight is a concern for everyone,” she says.
Lockett will discuss the various weight-loss resources that are currently available during a presentation, “Puzzled About Your Weight? FirstHealth Can Make All the Pieces Fit Together,” that is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8. The program will begin at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Family Care Center-Raeford at 313 Teal Drive.
Light healthy refreshments will be served.
During her program, Lockett will focus on Body Mass Index (BMI) and how an individual can find the right personal weight-loss solution.
“We will discuss nutrition, what is good to eat and what to avoid, how to read labels and putting together the basics of a new eating plan,” Lockett says. “We will also discuss exercise. It doesn’t have to be bad if you know how to start and progress slowly.”
Other areas of discussion will include weight training/toning and aggressive weight-loss tools such as medication and surgery.
“Medications are often not covered by insurance, but a short-term investment can help you health-wise in the long term,” says Lockett. “We’ll also discuss indications for surgery and when it is a good choice, as well as the hurdles and pitfalls that people commonly face when trying to lose weight and how to develop strategies for overcoming these hurdles and pitfalls before they became issues.”
